The Higher Education Commission Pakistan has authorized all public and private universities and degree-awarding institutions (DAIs) across the country to resume on-campus classes starting April 1, 2026.
In a notification issued on March 31, the HEC directed vice chancellors, rectors, and heads of institutions to restore normal academic activities, marking a return to regular classroom operations after temporary measures were introduced earlier this month.
Compliance Across the Country
The decision follows previous directives issued on March 10, which focused on austerity and fuel conservation measures affecting higher education institutions. The HEC has circulated the latest notification to relevant federal and provincial authorities, including education departments in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Officials emphasized that university administrations are responsible for ensuring full compliance with the directive, signaling a shift back to standard academic routines for students and faculty.
Return to Normal Academic Operations
The resumption of physical classes reflects the HECโs commitment to restoring in-person education while allowing institutions to manage resources effectively. Authorities expect students, faculty, and staff to adhere to institutional policies while returning to campuses.
With the directive now in effect, universities are preparing for a full-scale reopening, including lectures, lab sessions, and other on-campus academic activities.
