A daily wage labourer in Kasur allegedly died by suicide after receiving a high electricity bill, according to police. The incident took place in Kot Radha Kishan, Punjab, and has drawn attention to the financial pressures faced by low-income families.
Police said the incident occurred in the village of Bhutan Pura. The deceased was identified as Nasir Ali, a labourer who earned his living through daily wages. He was the father of two children.
According to initial police findings, Nasir Ali had recently received an electricity bill amounting to Rs41,062. Neighbours told authorities that he had been under severe stress after seeing the amount due.
Residents of the area also said Nasir Ali’s family had travelled to Bahawalnagar before the incident. He was reportedly alone at home when the tragic event took place.
Police were informed soon after the incident. Officers reached the scene and took the body into custody for legal formalities. The body was later shifted to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Police said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the post-mortem report.
The reported incident has raised concerns about the financial burden faced by many households due to rising utility expenses. Daily wage workers often struggle to manage household costs, especially when they receive unexpectedly high bills.
Although police have not officially confirmed the exact reason behind the death, neighbours claimed that the large electricity bill had caused significant emotional and financial stress for Nasir Ali.
Officials have urged the public to avoid drawing final conclusions until the investigation is completed. They said all available evidence will be examined before any official determination is made.
The case has also highlighted the challenges faced by families with limited income. Rising living costs, including utility charges, continue to place pressure on many households across the country.
Authorities are expected to record statements from family members and neighbours as part of the investigation. Police will also review any additional evidence that may help establish the facts of the case.
The post-mortem examination will play an important role in confirming the cause of death. Officials said the final investigation report will be prepared after all necessary procedures are completed.
The incident has sparked discussion among local residents about the impact of increasing household expenses. Many believe that sudden increases in an electricity bill can create financial hardship, particularly for people relying on daily wages.
Police have assured that the investigation will be carried out fairly and transparently. They urged the public not to spread unverified information while the inquiry remains ongoing.
