Hyderabad experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the city recording 280mm of rain, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Latifabad was the worst-hit area, receiving the highest rainfall. City Taluka recorded 268mm, Qasimabad 185mm, and Rural Taluka 158mm.
The intense rain caused widespread flooding in several neighborhoods. In Latifabad, streets were inundated, making movement difficult for residents. Emergency conditions were reported in Lassi Goth, Sukhia Goth, and nearby areas, where rainwater entered homes, creating hardships.
Several major roads in Karachi were also submerged. Water accumulated on M.A. Jinnah Road, Guru Mandir, Golimar, Rizvia, Board Office, KDA, Nagan Chowrangi, and Karelia Stop. Residents faced severe difficulties due to waterlogged streets and traffic disruptions.
Tragically, the floodwaters swept a rickshaw and a car into Thado stream. Reports confirmed that a woman was washed away, while another woman and a driver remain trapped inside the submerged vehicle. Police officials noted that water levels in the Konkar stream rose sharply, complicating rescue efforts. Authorities and rescue workers are actively trying to recover the trapped vehicles and assist affected residents.
Additionally, the heavy rainfall caused the collapse of factory walls in some areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid flooded roads, and cooperate with emergency services to minimize risks.
The Hyderabad 280mm rain has highlighted the vulnerability of urban areas to sudden heavy downpours. Local authorities continue to monitor water levels and provide necessary support to affected communities.
