Reports about Imran Khan’s family members have drawn attention ahead of the PTI protest planned for September 27.
The developments followed the detention of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan in Lahore. Authorities ordered her detention for 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.
The situation later expanded to other members of Imran Khan’s family. PTI said two of his sisters, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, were also detained.
Dawn reported that both women were detained for 30 days under the same public-order law. The detentions came ahead of the party’s planned nationwide protest and march.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram also alleged that family members were taken into custody.
He claimed that the sisters and other relatives were placed in an armoured vehicle. He said they were taken to an undisclosed location.
The reports also triggered concern about children linked to the family. Social media posts claimed that two children, aged four and six, had gone missing.
Imran Khan’s son Kasim Khan raised the issue in posts on social media. He later said he had received information that the children were safe.
Therefore, the claim that the two young children were arrested was not independently established. Reports instead indicated that they were later confirmed safe.
Meanwhile, other family members were reportedly taken into custody. PTI alleged that two additional relatives, Azeem and Sakeenah, had also been arrested.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed every allegation made by the party. Some reports about arrests remained based on statements from PTI and family members.
Aleema Khan’s detention remains the clearest officially documented development. Lahore’s deputy commissioner ordered her detention for 30 days under Section 3 of the Punjab MPO Ordinance.
The order cited concerns about public safety and public order. It came shortly before the PTI’s planned September 27 protest.
PTI has said the demonstration will demand Imran Khan’s release. The party has also called for the supremacy of the Constitution.
