Jailed PTI founder Imran Khan underwent an urgent eye procedure to address temporary vision issues in his right eye. Doctors confirmed increased pressure in the blood vessels had affected his eyesight.
The procedure was performed at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) under the supervision of senior ophthalmologists. PIMS Executive Director Dr. Rana Imran Sikandar said the operation was necessary due to central retinal vein occlusion, a condition caused by blocked retinal blood flow. Khan gave written consent for the eye procedure after being fully briefed on the treatment.
Before the operation, Imran Khan underwent several diagnostic tests, including slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina. These tests confirmed the need for immediate intervention to prevent further vision loss.
The eye procedure lasted approximately 20 minutes under sterile conditions. Dr. Sikandar confirmed that Khanโs vital signs remained stable throughout, and he was discharged with clear follow-up instructions for continued care.
News of the hospitalization sparked strong reactions from PTI leaders. Party members staged a sit-in outside the Supreme Court demanding access to Imran Khan and detailed information on his health. After a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja announced that Khanโs family would receive his medical report but described the outcome as โnot entirely satisfactory.โ
Reports of Khanโs treatment first emerged on local media, claiming he was hospitalized for an eye ailment over the weekend. Imranโs sister, Noreen Khan, later dismissed these claims, saying he was in good health and had no ongoing eye problems.
As political tensions rise, PTI continues to demand transparency about Imran Khanโs condition. His recovery and the results of the eye procedure remain closely watched by supporters and medical observers alike.
