Imran Khan's Letter to Army Chief Sparks Political Controversy in Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that a letter written by its chairman, Imran Khan, to the army chief has caused significant unease within the federal government. According to PTI spokesperson Barrister Dr Muhammad Ali Saif, the letter has created panic among government officials, although he did not name specific individuals or the army chief directly.

Saif suggested that senior figures from the governing coalition, particularly from the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), have been “visibly disturbed” by the letter, which he claims was met with propaganda even before it reached its intended recipients. He further alleged that the ruling party is using legal and administrative means to suppress PTI and its leadership.

The contents of the letter, reportedly addressed to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, remain undisclosed. However, PTI maintains that Imran Khan urged the military leadership to “reevaluate policy” in a six-point letter. Despite these claims, security sources have refuted the existence of any formal communication, stating that the military first learned about the letter through media reports.

PTI’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, who initially informed the media of the letter, insisted that Khan’s message called for reflection on current policies. Speaking outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, Chaudhry emphasized that the former prime minister sent the letter in his capacity as PTI chief and ex-premier.

The controversy around this alleged communication adds to the ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, with PTI vowing to hold the government accountable for what it describes as “unlawful actions” and “political victimisation” once Khan is released from custody.
