Indian Players Criticized for Posting ‘Fake Trophy Photos’ After Asia Cup Snub

Indian Players Criticized for Posting 'Fake Trophy Photos' After Asia Cup Snub

The Asia Cup 2025 final continues to spark controversy, this time over social media posts by Indian cricketers. After refusing to accept the official trophy, players are now under fire for sharing what fans are calling fake trophy photos.

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill posted images on their accounts showing themselves with a trophy. However, cricket followers quickly pointed out that the official silverware was never handed to the Indian team. The posts led to a wave of criticism online, with many questioning the purpose of sharing what they described as staged or fake trophy photos.

The unusual episode comes after Indiaโ€™s refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi. Following the decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally informed the ACC of its stance. As a result, the trophy was withdrawn from the stage, leaving the post-match ceremony incomplete.

Mohsin Naqvi stood firm on the matter and instead presented the runner-up cheque to Pakistanโ€™s captain, Salman Ali Agha. This marked the first time in tournament history that the winning team left without lifting the trophy.

Fans expressed disappointment at the online images, arguing that such gestures only deepened the controversy. Critics mocked the move, saying that no amount of fake trophy photos could change the reality of what happened on the field.

The issue has added another chapter to an already tense Asia Cup final, which was overshadowed by political undertones, public criticism, and unprecedented actions from both sides.

Analysts believe the incident will have a lasting impact on cricketing relations between Pakistan and India, as the debate over sports and politics continues to grow.
