Indian Delegation is attending a major Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Islamabad.
The SCO Council of National Coordinators meeting began under Pakistan’s chairmanship on September 28.
The three-day meeting will continue until September 30.
India’s National Coordinator Alok Dimri is representing the country during the talks in Islamabad. National coordinators from other SCO member states are also attending the meeting.
Representatives from the SCO Secretariat are participating as well. Pakistan’s National Coordinator is chairing the discussions.
The presence of the Indian Delegation has attracted attention amid continuing tensions between Pakistan and India.
Formal bilateral engagement between the two neighbouring countries has remained limited.
However, Pakistan and India continue to participate in activities held under the SCO framework.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, several organisational matters are being discussed during the Islamabad meeting.
These include activities planned under Pakistan’s 2026–27 SCO chairmanship. Officials are also discussing preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events.
Other matters related to cooperation between member states are also on the agenda. Pakistan has selected a theme for its current chairmanship.
The theme is “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”
Pakistan says regional connectivity is among its priorities during the chairmanship.
Other priorities include innovation and stronger economic cooperation. Islamabad also wants to strengthen people-to-people contacts among SCO member countries.
The current meeting is also linked to preparations for a major summit next year.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the SCO Council of Heads of State summit in Islamabad in August 2027. Preparations for the summit have already started.
Plans include upgrading the Jinnah Convention Centre in the federal capital.
Authorities are also considering improvements to internationally standard hotel accommodation in Islamabad.
The participation of the Indian Delegation represents another official engagement between the countries through the SCO. Indian officials have continued attending SCO-related events despite limited direct dialogue with Pakistan.
Both Pakistan and India became full members of the SCO in 2017.
Other members include China, Russia, Iran, Belarus and several Central Asian countries. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are also members of the organisation.
The Islamabad meeting is expected to establish priorities and schedules for Pakistan’s SCO chairmanship.

It will also contribute to preparations for the leaders’ summit scheduled for August 2027.
