Indian Supreme Court: Calling Someone ‘Pakistani’ Not a Criminal Offense

The Indian Supreme Court has ruled that calling someone ‘Miyan-Tiyan’ or ‘Pakistani’ is distasteful but does not constitute an offense under the law. The decision came as the court dismissed a case against a man accused of using the term against a government official in Jharkhand.

A complaint was filed under sections related to religious sentiments and obstruction of duty, but the Supreme Court found no grounds for prosecution. The bench stated that while the remarks were inappropriate, they did not provoke violence or hinder official duties.
