The Islamabad High Court has restored Interim Bail for Dr. Fazeela Abbasi in a high-profile money laundering case. The decision was announced on Tuesday during a court hearing.
Justice Muhammad Azam Khan granted Interim Bail against a surety bond of Rs100,000. The court also directed Dr. Fazeela Abbasi to approach the trial court for further legal proceedings.
Dr. Fazeela Abbasi appeared before the court along with her lawyer, Naeem Bukhari. During the hearing, her counsel informed the court that she had attended three previous hearings. He added that she missed one appearance due to health reasons and submitted a three-day medical certificate. This absence had earlier led to the cancellation of her bail.
The case involves serious allegations of financial irregularities. Authorities claim that around Rs25 billion were deposited into 22 bank accounts under her name. These funds were later transferred to accounts in the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Officials stated that the sources of this large amount of money remain unclear.
Investigators are continuing their probe to determine the origin of the funds and whether any laws were violated. The restoration of Interim Bail allows Dr. Fazeela Abbasi to remain free while the case proceeds in lower courts.
The case has also drawn public attention due to her family background. Dr. Fazeela Abbasi is the sister of Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. However, Hamza Ali Abbasi has publicly distanced himself from the matter. He stated that he has no connection to the case and should not be linked to the investigation.
He also mentioned that his sister is a successful professional in her own field. While he supports her as a family member, he clarified that her legal matters are separate from him.
Legal experts say that Interim Bail does not mean the case is closed. It only provides temporary relief to the accused until further hearings take place.
The court has now shifted the responsibility to the trial court to continue proceedings. The outcome will depend on the evidence and findings presented in the coming hearings.
