Iran Air has officially launched its first-ever direct flight to Quetta, marking a historic step in strengthening air connectivity between Pakistan and Iran. The inaugural flight arrived at Quetta International Airport on Wednesday night, where it was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute and applause from aviation officials.
The maiden flight, an Airbus A319 operating as Flight 826 on the Mashhad–Zahedan–Quetta route, landed at 9:30 p.m. A special ceremony was held in the State Lounge to celebrate the milestone event.
The ceremony was attended by Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel as the chief guest, along with Iran’s Consul General, senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and members of the diplomatic and business communities. The event began with the national anthems of both Pakistan and Iran, symbolizing the spirit of cooperation and friendship.
In his address, Governor Mandokhel called the new Iran Air route “a landmark development” that would strengthen bilateral relations. He said the direct flight would enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two neighboring nations.
“This direct service will bring our people closer and open new opportunities for travelers, traders, and pilgrims,” he stated.
According to officials, Iran Air will operate the Mashhad–Zahedan–Quetta route once a week, every Wednesday. The inaugural flight arrived with 30 passengers and departed with 120, signaling strong interest in the new service.
A CAA spokesperson described the launch as “a proud moment for Quetta International Airport.” The spokesperson noted that the new air link will make travel more convenient for pilgrims and business travelers from both countries, promoting greater regional connectivity.
The launch of Iran Air’s Quetta flight represents an important milestone in regional aviation, paving the way for stronger economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Iran.
