The Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory announcing temporary road closures and diversion routes on Ataturk Avenue due to ongoing construction activity in the federal capital.
According to officials, the road will remain closed for traffic from Express Chowk to Ayub Chowk (Aga Khan Road) starting March 31, 2026, and will stay closed until the completion of the development project.
Diversion Routes for Commuters
Authorities have introduced alternative routes to minimize inconvenience for commuters traveling through central Islamabad.
Motorists moving from Jinnah Avenue toward the Islamabad Marriott Hotel will be redirected via China Chowk, Press Club Road, Super Market, and Aga Khan Road.
Traffic coming from Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy and Embassy Road toward the Marriott Hotel will instead use Shaheed-e-Millat Road, the China Chowk underpass, Press Club Road, and Aga Khan Road.
Alternate Routes for Secretariat Access
Commuters traveling from Srinagar Highway toward the Secretariat have been advised to follow alternate routes through Serena Chowk, Globe Chowk, and Secretariat Chowk.
Meanwhile, motorists approaching from Seventh Avenue can access the Secretariat using Margalla Road and Shahrah-e-Dastoor.
Residents of Sector F-6 have also been advised to rely on Seventh Avenue and Margalla Road during the closure period to avoid congestion.
Public Advisory Issued
The Islamabad Traffic Police has urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance, follow designated diversion plans, and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction phase.
Officials emphasized that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to facilitate infrastructure improvements aimed at easing long-term traffic congestion in the capital.
