Islamabad Issues Clarification on New M-Tags for Vehicles Entering the City

Islamabad Issues Clarification on New M-Tags for Vehicles Entering the City

Islamabad authorities have issued a clarification regarding the new requirement for M-tags on vehicles entering the federal capital. The clarification comes after confusion spread on social media, with many users believing that the M-tag rule had been changed or expanded.

According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad administration, there is no new policy, and the existing rules for M-tags remain the same. Officials stated that the requirement applies only at specific entry points, mainly to reduce traffic congestion and enhance security checks.

Authorities said the M-tag system is already in place at the Motorway M-2 toll plaza, where vehicles heading toward Islamabad are encouraged to use electronic tags for faster movement. They added that the system improves traffic flow and reduces long queues during peak hours.

The clarification also noted that the administration has not made M-tags mandatory for all roads entering Islamabad. Instead, the rule applies only where the National Highways Authority (NHA) and motorway police manage toll operations.

Officials urged citizens not to believe unverified information circulating online. They assured the public that any future changes to the M-tag policy will be announced officially through government channels.

The statement aims to clear confusion and ensure smooth travel for commuters who use the motorway and other major routes leading to the capital.
