The Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service has reduced its service hours as part of the federal governmentโs energy conservation plan.
According to officials, all metro stations will now close by 9:40 pm, and the last buses will depart from Rawalpindi to Islamabad and vice versa by 9:00 pm. The revised service hours aim to manage fuel consumption amid the ongoing global petroleum shortage.
Authorities assured the public that Pakistanโs fuel supply remains stable. They also emphasized that with citizen cooperation, the country can meet energy challenges while safeguarding economic stability.
The government recently increased kerosene oil prices by Rs4.66 per litre, bringing it to Rs433.40, effective March 28, as per the Petroleum Division notification. Despite international oil price hikes, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged at Rs321.17 and Rs335.86 per litre, respectively, to protect consumers.
Under the Petroleum Development Cess (PDC), oil marketing companies will receive Rs95.59 per litre on petrol and Rs203.88 per litre on diesel as compensation, according to official sources.
Transport authorities urged commuters to plan travel according to the new service hours and avoid waiting at closed stations. Officials added that the adjusted timings are temporary and may be revised depending on fuel availability and national energy requirements.
The shortened metro bus schedule is part of a broader effort to save fuel and maintain economic stability. Passengers are encouraged to use alternative transport options during late-night hours until normal service hours resume.
The Metro Bus Service continues to operate efficiently within the revised timetable, ensuring safe and reliable travel for thousands of daily commuters.
