ISLAMABAD – The federal government has decided to prevent the protest call of a religious party “at all costs,” keeping Islamabad and Rawalpindi under tight lockdown for the second consecutive day.
According to officials, a detailed security plan involving more than 5,500 law enforcement personnel has been enforced to maintain peace in Islamabad.
Massive Security Deployment Across the Capital
Under the final plan issued by Islamabad Police, personnel from Rangers, Frontier Corps (FC), and Punjab Police have been deployed to assist local authorities. The deployment includes 500 Rangers, 600 Punjab Police, and 1,000 FC personnel, while over 3,500 Islamabad Police officers have been stationed across internal and external routes.
The operation is being supervised by five SSPs and six SPs to ensure order during the protest. Authorities emphasized that no protester will be allowed to enter sensitive areas of the capital.
Twin Cities Locked Down
For the second day, both Islamabad and Rawalpindi remained under partial lockdown, with more than 125 key entry and exit routes sealed using containers and barbed wire. Inter-city transport, including the Metro Bus Service, has been suspended, while several roads leading to hospitals and offices remain blocked.
Commuters faced severe difficulties, with many stranded for hours. Citizens expressed frustration over the closures, saying the situation has disrupted normal life and access to essential services.
Red Zone Completely Sealed
All access points to Islamabad’s Red Zone — including Serena Chowk, D-Chowk, Nadra Chowk, and Marriott Hotel — have been closed with heavy containers. Officials said the move aims to prevent protesters from entering areas housing key government offices and foreign missions.
