ISLAMABAD – Security measures have been increased in Islamabad ahead of the planned PTI Protest on September 27.

Authorities are preparing to seal the Red Zone and its extended high-security areas. Major routes leading into the Red Zone are expected to be blocked with containers.

Sources said five main routes could be sealed using two layers of containers. Heavy police contingents are also expected to be deployed at entry points.

The extended Red Zone will remain closed under the security plan. It may only be reopened in case of an emergency.

Police have already requested more than 1,000 containers for security arrangements. These will cover the Red Zone, High Security Zone and major entry and exit points.

Containers are also being placed along important roads across the capital. The move aims to restrict movement toward sensitive areas during the planned PTI Protest.

The Islamabad Capital Police has also increased its preparedness. A circular issued by the Inspector General of Police suspended routine leave for police personnel.

The leave suspension will remain in place until October 5, 2026. Police officials and personnel are expected to remain available for security duties during this period.

The preparations follow a detailed judgment issued by the Islamabad High Court. The court examined a petition concerning the proposed September 27 march.

The court said political parties and public officials cannot occupy public roads in a way that blocks citizens. It also stressed the protection of access to workplaces, businesses, hospitals and educational institutions.

The IHC also held that peaceful assembly is a constitutional right. However, the right remains subject to the law and the rights of other citizens.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also warned against attempts to march toward Islamabad. He said the government would take steps to prevent such a move.

Naqvi said violations of the court’s directions could lead to contempt proceedings. He also said arrangements were being made with the provinces to stop protesters from entering Islamabad.

PTI has maintained its plan for the September 27 mobilisation. The party has described the planned protest as peaceful and constitutional.

The security measures are expected to affect commuters and residents across the capital. People travelling toward the Red Zone and major entry routes may face restrictions.
