The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a major redevelopment project in Islamabad’s Blue Area, transforming a key stretch between Savour Foods and Khyber Plaza into a modern, car-free pedestrian zone worth Rs240 million.
The upcoming corridor spans approximately 800 metres along Jinnah Avenue, designed to offer a vibrant walk-and-shop experience featuring food outlets, digital screens, landscaped green walkways, and sitting areas. The initiative aims to promote a more sustainable, people-friendly urban environment in the heart of the capital.
To make the area accessible for everyone, electric carts will be available to help senior citizens and children move comfortably within the zone. Visitors will also benefit from convenient parking options, including a multi-storey parking plaza with 950 spaces and additional parking near PIMS accommodating 150 vehicles.
According to Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, the project is being developed as a pilot initiative to redefine Islamabad’s urban experience. If successful, the CDA plans to expand similar pedestrian-friendly corridors to other commercial hubs, including Jinnah Super Market and nearby business districts.
The project is expected to be completed within 45 days, marking a major step toward reshaping Islamabad’s cityscape with sustainable, walkable spaces.
