SHIKARPUR: Multiple coaches of the Jaffer Express, traveling from Peshawar to Quetta, derailed near Sultan Kot after an explosion on the railway track. Several passengers sustained injuries in the incident, according to initial reports.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways confirmed that rescue teams have been dispatched to the site to assist passengers and restore train operations. Emergency medical services are also providing aid to the injured, while authorities work to clear the affected section of the track.
This marks the second such incident involving the Jaffer Express in recent weeks. On September 23, the same train derailed a few kilometers from Quetta, between Digari Cross Superintendent and Saryab Railway Stations, after a blast damaged the engine and five coaches.
Following the latest explosion, Jaffer Express services have been temporarily suspended as authorities launch a detailed investigation into the cause of the attack. Repair work on the damaged railway track is already underway.
Officials have urged passengers to check for travel updates before booking tickets on routes between Peshawar and Quetta. The suspension aims to ensure the safety of all passengers while the investigation continues.
Earlier this year, the Jaffer Express faced a deadly attack while traveling from Quetta to Peshawar with over 380 passengers on board. The train was ambushed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in a remote mountainous area. The attackers detonated explosives on the tracks and opened fire, forcing the train to stop.
The Pakistan Armed Forces later launched Operation Green Bolan, rescuing 354 passengers and neutralizing 33 insurgents. The tragic incident claimed 64 lives, including 18 soldiers on leave, and left 38 others injured.
The recent derailment has once again raised concerns about railway security in Pakistan, especially on long-distance routes passing through sensitive areas.
