Jalalpur Pirwala and surrounding areas are facing severe flooding due to the rising flow of the Chenab River. At Head Panjnad, the river’s flow surged to 668,000 cusecs, submerging settlements and displacing millions.
Authorities report that nearby Alipur Tehsil has been heavily affected, with nearly 80% of the area underwater. Crops across hundreds of acres have been destroyed, and dozens of villages have been wiped out. Rescue teams say many families remain trapped and are awaiting evacuation.
In Jalalpur Pirwala Tehsil, officials deliberately breached Gilani Dam to save the city from further destruction. Water has been diverted towards Bahadurpur North, Bahadurpur South, Long, Sabira, and Kanhan, putting these areas at immediate risk. Residents have been urged to evacuate as the situation remains critical.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb inspected a crack near Basti Baharan and instructed workers to reinforce it without delay. Authorities have also made controlled breaches on Uch Sharif Road to reduce pressure on temporary dams protecting Jalalpur Pirwala city.
During ongoing rescue operations, a boat carrying flood victims capsized in Darabpur village, Alipur. Rescue officials confirmed that all passengers survived without injuries despite the mishap.
Meanwhile, in Multan, the flood situation shows slight improvement. Water levels at Head Muhammad Wala dropped from 413.60 to 412.90 feet, and the main road has reopened for traffic. However, authorities remain vigilant for further flooding risks.
The Flood Forecasting Division has issued warnings for very high flood levels at Head Panjnad, Sudhanai, and Ganda Singh Wala. High floods persist at Head Sulaimanki, Head Islam, and Mailsi Siphon. Moderate flooding continues at Guddu Barrage, Sukkur Barrage, Trimo, and Baloki.
Jalalpur Pirwala residents continue to face uncertainty as authorities work tirelessly to manage the crisis. Evacuation orders and flood control measures remain in effect to protect lives and minimize damage.
