Tensions are rising within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after a Junaid Akbar blasts surfaced in an alleged audio recording. The lawmaker expressed frustration over restrictions on speaking in the National Assembly.
In the leaked audio, Junaid Akbar blasts the PTI leadership for limiting debate participation. He claimed only a few select members were consistently allowed to speak, while others were sidelined.
He criticized the Chief Whipโs authority, saying it prevented him from fulfilling his role as a representative. โI have reached my limit,โ Akbar said, adding he might declare himself independent if the situation continues. He stated he would ask the Speaker to formally recognize his status.
Akbar also expressed dissatisfaction with the parliamentary committee system. He said it stifled debate and allowed only a handful of lawmakers to dominate discussions. Routine sessions, including the budget and last Ramadan debates, were reportedly monopolized by the same members. He added that his silence was being misinterpreted as agreement.
Junaid Akbar blasts specific party members for monopolizing debates and restricting participation. PTI insiders said the party leadership is reviewing the situation and may call a meeting to address the grievances highlighted in the audio.
Separately, another audio leak involved PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram. In his recording, he blamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for the absence of party lawmakers at a sit-in to meet former prime minister Imran Khan.
Sheikh Waqas criticized the lack of planning and last-minute instructions. He noted many lawmakers live in remote areas and lack rapid transport. He said proper coordination could have ensured full participation of PTIโs 90 lawmakers.
The recent incidents, including Junaid Akbar blasts, have intensified scrutiny on internal party dynamics. PTI officials are reportedly considering steps to address concerns and prevent further discord among parliamentary members.
