Five Cattle Markets To Be Established in Karachi Ahead of Eidul Azha 2026

Five Cattle Markets To Be Established in Karachi Ahead of Eidul Azha 2026

Authorities in Karachi have approved the establishment of official cattle markets across the city ahead of Eidul Azha 2026. The decision aims to organize livestock trade and improve facilities for buyers and sellers.

According to an official notification, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will set up cattle markets at five main locations. These include Sunday Bazar in North Karachi, KMC Grounds, Safari Park, and Gulistan-e-Johar Blocks 5 and 6. Additional sites include vacant plots in Lyariโ€™s Bakra Piri area and Korangi.

Officials said these approved markets will help manage the large seasonal demand. They will also ensure better regulation of livestock trade during the Eid period. The move is expected to reduce congestion and improve safety in city areas.

Earlier, KMC had requested permission for 11 livestock markets across Karachi. However, approval has initially been granted for five locations. Authorities may consider expanding the number of markets later based on demand and management capacity.

Meanwhile, livestock prices have increased ahead of Eidul Azha. Demand is rising in major markets across the country. Inflation and higher transportation costs are also affecting prices.

Goat prices have gone up compared to last year. A medium-sized goat is now selling between Rs60,000 and Rs70,000. Premium animals are priced even higher in many markets.

Bull prices have also shown changes. Last year, a good-quality bull cost around Rs180,000 to Rs200,000. This year, prices are expected to stay near similar levels in most markets, depending on weight and quality.

Despite price pressure, livestock supply remains strong. Many animals are available in different markets due to restrictions on exports. This has helped maintain balance in some areas.

Major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad have established large cattle farms. These farms supply animals to seasonal markets every year. Prices at premium farms can reach millions of rupees for high-quality bulls.

Authorities say organized markets will support smoother trade operations. They also expect better monitoring of prices and facilities for citizens during Eid season.
