Karachi traffic authorities have imposed a complete ban on water tankers, dumpers following a fatal traffic accident in the Razzaqabad area. Traffic Police DIG Pir Muhammad Shah confirmed the decision on Saturday, emphasizing public safety as the top priority.
The ban comes after a tragic mishap involving a dumper that claimed the life of a rickshaw driver and left several others injured. The accident also caused damage to a van and a nearby shop. Officials found that the dumper involved did not have a tracker installed, raising concerns about the regulation and monitoring of heavy vehicles in the city.
DIG Pir Muhammad Shah clarified that only water tankers, dumpers equipped with trackers and sharing real-time access with traffic authorities will be exempted. These vehicles will also be allowed to operate only during scheduled hours to ensure better road safety.
Owners of tracked heavy vehicles must formally provide tracker access to the police. Vehicles without trackers or those refusing to share tracker data will face immediate seizure during inspections on city roads. The authorities stressed that no dumper or water tanker will be permitted to ply Karachi streets without compliance.
The traffic police have installed trackers in several dumpers and water tankers; however, many owners have not granted access to the authorities. DIG Shah urged all vehicle owners to comply with the rules to avoid penalties and contribute to safer road conditions.
This strict measure is part of Karachiโs ongoing efforts to improve traffic management and prevent accidents involving heavy vehicles. Residents are advised to stay cautious, and vehicle owners are reminded to adhere strictly to the new regulations concerning water tankers, dumpers.
Authorities confirmed that enforcement of this ban would be rigorous, with spot checks and inspections continuing across the city to ensure compliance.
