Sindh Government Moves To Revive Circular Railway Project in Karachi

The Sindh government and federal authorities have agreed to restart key transport projects in Karachi. The focus is on reviving the Circular Railway to improve public mobility across the city.

The agreement was made during a high-level meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. The meeting focused on upgrading Karachiโ€™s transport system.

Officials confirmed plans to revive the Karachi Circular Railway along with suburban train services. The goal is to provide fast, affordable, and reliable transport for daily commuters. The system is expected to reduce pressure on roads.

New train routes were also discussed during the meeting. These include Karachi to Taroha and Karachi to Tajikabad services. Authorities said these routes will support better citywide connectivity.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said Karachi urgently needs a modern transport system. He emphasized that the Circular Railway can play a key role in solving traffic problems. He also stressed joint efforts between federal and provincial governments.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said coordinated planning is essential. He added that the Circular Railway project will be developed into a modern and efficient system. He assured full cooperation from the federal government.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared additional plans. He said BRT buses will operate as feeder services after the revival of the Circular Railway. This will improve last-mile connectivity for passengers.

Officials also discussed infrastructure issues during the meeting. The Chief Secretary highlighted delays in the Malir Halt underpass project. The Railways Minister directed that the NOC be issued without delay.

Environmental improvements were also included in the plan. A green corridor will be developed along railway tracks. Tree plantation drives and anti-encroachment actions were also approved.

The government decided to launch strict action against illegal occupation of railway land. District administrations have been instructed to support clearance operations.

Authorities agreed to strengthen coordination between departments. The revival of the Circular Railway is seen as a major step toward improving Karachiโ€™s transport system and easing daily travel for citizens.
