A Karachi court has ordered a transport company to pay Rs42 million in compensation to the family of a man who died in a truck accident eight years ago. The verdict comes after a lengthy legal battle that began in 2017.
According to court documents, the deceased, identified as 35-year-old Muhammad Imran, was killed when a speeding truck collided with his motorcycle near Korangi Industrial Area. His family filed a civil suit against the transport company, demanding compensation for negligence and loss of income.
After several years of hearings and evidence examination, the court ruled in favor of the victim’s family. The judge noted that the truck driver’s reckless driving was the main cause of the accident and that the company failed to ensure proper safety compliance.
The court ordered the company to pay Rs42 million as compensation, including damages for emotional distress and financial loss suffered by the victim’s dependents. The amount must be settled within 60 days.
Legal experts called the decision a significant example of accountability in Pakistan’s transport sector, where families of accident victims often struggle for years to receive justice.
The ruling also emphasizes the responsibility of transport companies to maintain road safety standards and provide proper driver training to prevent such tragedies.
