The Model Criminal Court East announced the verdict against police official Shehryar. The court found him guilty in the murder case.
Two other police personnel, identified as Nasir and Faisal, were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were also convicted in connection with the killing.
The court further ordered all three convicted officials to pay Rs500,000 each as compensation to the victim’s family. The combined compensation amount stands at Rs1.5 million.
The verdict follows a case involving the alleged misuse of police authority during an operation. The prosecution presented details of how the incident unfolded and how officers initially described it.
Karachi Police Encounter Case: What Happened?
According to the prosecution, personnel from the Shaheen Force signalled a young man named Aamir to stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. However, he did not comply with their instructions.
The police personnel then chased him and entered a residential apartment. The officers opened fire on Aamir inside the building.
Police officials initially presented the incident as an encounter. However, questions surrounding the shooting later led to legal action against the accused personnel.
The case was subsequently registered at Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station in 2022. The investigation and court proceedings continued before the Model Criminal Court East delivered its judgment.
Court Announces Sentences Against Three Police Officials
The court found police official Shehryar guilty and handed him the death sentence. His two co-accused, Nasir and Faisal, received life imprisonment.
All three convicts were also directed to compensate the victim’s family. Each official must pay Rs500,000 under the court’s order.
The sentences reflect the court’s findings in the case. The judgment followed the examination of evidence and prosecution arguments presented during the proceedings.
The case drew attention to allegations involving a staged encounter and the conduct of police personnel. It also highlighted the legal process for holding public officials accountable for criminal acts.
Legal Proceedings Follow 2022 Case Registration
The case against the accused was registered at Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station in 2022. The proceedings eventually concluded with the court announcing its verdict.
The Model Criminal Court East issued separate sentences based on the roles of the three accused officials. Shehryar received the death penalty, while Nasir and Faisal were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The court also ordered financial compensation for Aamir’s family. Each convicted official was directed to pay Rs500,000.
The verdict marks a significant development in the Karachi staged encounter case. It brings the court proceedings to a judgment against the three police personnel.
The case has also renewed attention on allegations of unlawful police encounters. Such incidents raise questions about accountability and the proper use of police powers.
The court’s decision establishes the sentences handed down in this case. Further legal developments, if any, will depend on the subsequent proceedings.
