Customs officials in Karachi have seized a large consignment of smuggled Iranian diesel valued at more than Rs12 million, as part of an ongoing crackdown on fuel smuggling operations across Sindh.
According to authorities, the operation was conducted after intelligence reports indicated the movement of illegal fuel shipments entering the province through Balochistan. The customs team intercepted multiple vehicles carrying Iranian diesel without valid documentation near the cityβs outskirts.
Officials said the seized diesel was being supplied to local markets at lower prices, undercutting legal fuel dealers and causing significant revenue losses to the national exchequer. The drivers and handlers involved have been detained, and a formal investigation is underway to trace the smuggling network behind the operation.
Customs officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing anti-smuggling operations across the province, emphasizing that such illegal trade not only harms the economy but also poses environmental and safety risks due to poor fuel quality.
The authorities further noted that increased cooperation between law enforcement agencies has helped curb the smuggling of Iranian petroleum products, with several major seizures made in recent months.
This latest recovery marks another significant success in the federal governmentβs campaign to eliminate illicit fuel trade and strengthen border enforcement mechanisms.
