Karachi received widespread rainfall on Tuesday as several parts of the city were hit by light to moderate showers. The rain brought relief from the heat but also caused slow traffic and fears of flooding in low-lying areas.
According to reports, showers were recorded in Shahrah-e-Faisal, Tariq Road, Saddar, and M.A. Jinnah Road. Other affected areas included Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and University Road. Residents in Nazimabad, Orangi Town, SITE Area, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar also experienced downpours.
The rainfall has prompted authorities to stay on Karachi high alert. Municipal teams have been directed to keep dewatering pumps ready and respond quickly to complaints of waterlogging. Officials have also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy showers to reduce risks.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast warned of “very heavy downpours” for Karachi. It said the city could face moderate to strong showers from Tuesday morning until late night. The current spell is linked to a monsoon system that has intensified as a deep depression over land, centered over Tharparkar.
Meteorologists added that a low-pressure system from India’s Madhya Pradesh had moved into Rajasthan and southeastern Sindh. This shift is drawing strong monsoon currents into Karachi and the eastern parts of Punjab.
Authorities said that while the rainfall is easing temperatures, continuous showers may worsen drainage problems in vulnerable neighborhoods. Emergency services remain on standby to deal with any incidents.
The fresh monsoon spell has once again highlighted Karachi’s struggle with urban flooding and poor drainage. Officials say efforts are underway to minimize disruption, but residents have been asked to remain cautious until the system weakens.
