Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the rehabilitation work on Sakhi Hassan Road in North Nazimabad on Tuesday, highlighting it as part of the cityโs broader infrastructure development efforts. The project aims to address traffic congestion and improve road conditions in the area.
The mayor said the initiative is part of a larger plan to construct and rehabilitate 26 roads across Karachi, with ongoing development projects totaling Rs68 billion. He emphasized that these projects are designed to tackle long-standing traffic and infrastructure challenges in the city.
Several major projects, including Shahrah-i-Noor Jahan, have already been completed, while rehabilitation work continues on Sher Shah Suri Road. Wahab also pointed to the Shahrah-i-Bhutto project in Gadap Town, which is expected to significantly improve traffic flow between Qayyumabad and Kathore.
The Sakhi Hassan Road project will cost approximately Rs140 million and includes road rehabilitation, drainage upgrades, and other civic works. The road will be expanded into a dual carriageway of about 0.883 kilometres with a width of 30 feet, alongside the repair of a drainage line of the same length.
The mayor highlighted that rainwater from nearby hilly areas had previously caused flooding issues near Sakhi Hassan Graveyard and surrounding localities such as Shadman. The new drainage system is expected to resolve these problems and improve living conditions for local residents.
