The Sindh cabinet has approved a major development plan in Karachi. A Mega Graveyard Project has been given the green light to address the growing need for burial space in the city.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. The meeting took place at the CM House and included senior officials and ministers. Several development and welfare projects were discussed and approved.
Under the plan, 500 acres of land have been allocated for the Mega Graveyard Project. The selected site is located in Deh Mitha Ghar, District Malir. Officials said the land will be used to build a large and organized burial facility.
The Mega Graveyard Project aims to solve the issue of limited burial space in Karachi. The city has seen rapid population growth in recent years. This has increased pressure on existing graveyards.
Authorities said the Local Government Department will manage the project. It will be responsible for planning and development of the new facility. The goal is to ensure proper management and accessibility.
During the meeting, the cabinet also approved several other initiatives. These included infrastructure upgrades, healthcare improvements, and social welfare measures. The government plans to invest over Rs30 billion in various projects across Sindh.
In addition to the Karachi plan, funds were approved for a graveyard in Hyderabad. The project will receive over Rs252 million. Authorities also approved Rs800 million for water supply pipelines in Qasimabad.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for balanced development. He said the government is focused on improving public services. He also highlighted efforts to support vulnerable groups affected by inflation.
