Karachi Traffic Update: Police Close Roads Near Press Club for PTI Protest

Karachi Traffic Update Police Close Roads Near Press Club for PTI Protest

KARACHI โ€“ Karachi Traffic was disrupted on Wednesday after police sealed several roads around the Karachi Press Club ahead of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The demonstration marks three years since the imprisonment of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Heavy security arrangements caused congestion in central parts of the city. Motorists faced delays, long queues, and diversions as authorities restricted movement near one of Karachiโ€™s most sensitive protest locations.

According to traffic police, a detailed Karachi Traffic diversion plan was put into effect to reduce congestion and maintain public safety. Officials urged commuters to avoid the affected areas and follow alternative routes where possible.

Vehicles coming from MR Kiani Chowrangi were diverted towards Thana Gali. Traffic arriving from Fawara Chowk was redirected to Aiwan-e-Sadr Road and Zainab Market.

Similarly, vehicles approaching from the Coast Guard area were rerouted through the Passport Office lane. The temporary measures were introduced to reduce pressure around the Karachi Press Club.

Traffic police advised commuters to cooperate with officials on duty. Authorities also requested drivers to plan their journeys in advance to avoid unnecessary delays.

The road closures coincide with PTIโ€™s nationwide protest campaign held on August 5. The party says the demonstrations mark three years since what it describes as the โ€œillegal imprisonmentโ€ of its founder, Imran Khan.

PTI announced protests in several cities across Pakistan. The party also said its overseas supporters are holding parallel demonstrations in different countries.

Law enforcement agencies have increased security around government buildings, public spaces, and other sensitive locations. Officials said the measures were taken to maintain law and order during the planned gatherings.

Imran Khan has remained in prison since 2023 following his conviction in a corruption case. Since then, he has faced several other legal proceedings, including cases related to corruption and the disclosure of official secrets.

PTI maintains that the cases against its founder are politically motivated and intended to keep him out of active politics. The government, however, says the judicial process is independent and that legal matters are being handled according to the law.

The latest demonstrations are part of a series of protests organized by PTI since Khanโ€™s arrest. The party continues to demand his release and calls for fresh general elections.

Authorities have asked citizens to stay informed through official traffic updates before travelling in central Karachi. Officials said the Karachi Traffic diversions will remain in place until security agencies declare the area safe for normal movement.

Commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow extra travel time while police continue security operations around the protest venue. Officials said further updates will be shared if additional traffic changes become necessary.
