Persistent monsoon rainfall has severely disrupted railway operations in Karachi, leading to widespread train delays and leaving passengers stranded across the city. The downpour has caused soggy tracks and logistical challenges, forcing Pakistan Railways to revise departure times for several major trains.
Among the affected services, the Bahauddin Zakariya Express is now scheduled to depart at 7:30 PM, delayed by one hour and fifteen minutes. The Fareed Express faces the longest delay of four and a half hours, with a new departure time set for midnight. Other delayed services include the Shah Hussain Express (now departing at 10:00 PM), Sukkur Express (1:00 AM), and Khyber Mail (11:45 PM).

The delays come amid Karachi’s fourth consecutive day of monsoon rainfall, with humidity levels above 80% and temperatures hovering around 32°C. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast continued drizzle and light showers, warning that a second monsoon spell is likely to hit in early July.
The adverse weather has not only hampered transport but also led to several tragic incidents, including fatalities due to electrocution and roof collapses. In the first monsoon spell from June 26 to June 30, Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 78mm, while Saddar received the least at 5mm.
Railway authorities have urged travelers to confirm updated schedules via official helplines or at local stations before heading out. Delays are expected to persist as unstable weather conditions continue.
