Kartarpur Corridor Closure Frustrates Sikh Pilgrims Amid Ceasefire

Despite the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India, the Kartarpur Corridor remains closed from the Indian side for the sixth consecutive day, disappointing Sikh pilgrims and religious authorities in Pakistan. The corridor allows visa-free access for Indian Sikh devotees to visit the sacred Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

Pilgrims in Shakargarh, Narowal, expressed their sadness over the ongoing closure, urging India to separate religion from political disputes. Local Sikh leaders and gurdwara officials in Pakistan confirmed they are ready to welcome visitors every day, but remain hopeful for Indian cooperation.

The Indian government cited security concerns for the closure, which was abruptly announced on May 7 with no clear timeline for reopening. This has also cast uncertainty over a planned visit by 500 Sikh pilgrims from India for Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s anniversary on June 30.

Pakistan’s religious community appeals to India to lift restrictions, emphasizing the importance of preserving faith-based connections free from political tensions. The Kartarpur Corridor remains a vital link for Sikh devotees, symbolizing peace and spiritual unity.
