Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has accused PTI founder Imran Khan of avoiding political dialogue with the government. He claimed that the former prime minister only wants talks with the establishment.
Speaking on ARY News program Khabar, Khawaja Asif said he is open to dialogue if PTI shows sincerity. He added that he remains a critic of the party but is willing to engage for political stability.
The defence minister alleged that PTI follows a dual policy on negotiations. He said the party speaks about talks but avoids clear political engagement. According to him, dialogue can move forward only if PTI openly supports the state on national matters.
He stressed the need for unity on counter-terrorism and national security issues. He said political parties must stand together during difficult times. Without this clarity, negotiations cannot be meaningful.
Khawaja Asif also commented on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer for talks. He said the invitation did not receive a serious response from PTI. He described the situation as a non-starter due to PTI’s unclear position.
The defence minister repeated his claim that the PTI founder prefers engagement with the establishment. He said this approach shows inconsistency in PTI’s political strategy. According to him, real dialogue should take place within the political system.
Responding to a question, Khawaja Asif said the government would react if PTI announced a wheel-jam strike. He did not provide details about possible government measures. However, he said the state would ensure law and order.
He also addressed recent statements from military leadership. He said messages from the Corps Commanders’ Conference were general in nature. He clarified that they were not aimed at any specific political party.
Khawaja Asif concluded that political stability requires honest dialogue. He urged all parties to adopt a clear and consistent stance. He said meaningful talks are possible only through mutual trust and respect.
