Islamabad: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has accused the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of launching terrorist attacks inside Pakistan with support from Kabul, highlighting growing concerns over cross-border militancy.
Speaking to the media, Asif stated that terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil are responsible for a surge in recent attacks targeting security personnel and civilians. He stressed that Pakistan has repeatedly raised the issue with the Afghan interim government, urging it to prevent its territory from being used against Pakistan.
“The TTP is being backed by Kabul and continues to carry out terrorist activities in Pakistan,” Asif said, adding that the country’s security forces are fully capable of responding to any threat. He reaffirmed that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with its neighbors but will not tolerate cross-border terrorism.
The minister further noted that intelligence-based operations (IBOs) are being intensified across border regions to eliminate terrorist networks and safeguard national stability.
Asif’s remarks come amid a rise in militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which officials link to groups operating from across the Afghan border.
