Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Government Launches Five-Day Polio Campaign in Seven Districts

Peshawar: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has commenced a special five-day polio campaign in seven districts of the province. The campaign aims to vaccinate children and ensure the eradication of polio in the region.

The targeted districts for the campaign include Nowshera, Peshawar, Mohmand, Hangu, Khyber, Kohat, and Charsadda. According to a health department official, over 2.212 million children will receive polio drops during the campaign. In addition, approximately 107,000 children residing in Afghan refugee camps in Buner, Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Mansehra, Malakand, Mardan, Swabi, as well as special union councils located along the Pak-Afghan border, will also be administered the polio vaccine.

To ensure the success of the campaign, a total of 8,441 teams have been formed, comprising mobile, fixed, and transit teams. These teams will visit various areas to reach the targeted children and administer the polio drops effectively.

In terms of security, the government has taken significant measures to protect the polio workers. A total of 14,926 police personnel have been deployed to provide security during the campaign, ensuring the safety of the vaccination teams and maintaining a conducive environment for the vaccination drive.

Polio eradication efforts are crucial to protect the health and well-being of children in the region. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s initiative reflects its commitment to eliminating polio and safeguarding the future generations from the debilitating effects of the disease. By conducting these regular polio campaigns and ensuring widespread vaccination coverage, the government aims to achieve a polio-free Pakistan and contribute to the global eradication of polio.
