Punjab government’s Kisan Card program continues to expand its reach, with more than 832,000 farmers now benefiting from the initiative across the province.
According to official figures, farmers have used agricultural loans worth Rs2.54 billion through the scheme. The program aims to improve access to financial support and agricultural inputs while reducing farmers’ dependence on traditional lending channels.
Data released by authorities shows that farmers used the Kisan Card facility extensively during the wheat season. Agricultural inputs worth approximately Rs100 billion were purchased through the program during the crop cycle.
For the Kharif season, farmers received financial support totaling around Rs90 billion. Officials believe this assistance has helped growers purchase seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other essential farming inputs in a timely manner.
The scheme has also benefited a large number of small and medium-sized farmers. Around 300,000 farmers obtained agricultural inputs worth Rs30 billion through the program, according to official records.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the Kisan Card initiative is bringing positive changes to the agricultural sector. She stated that the program is helping farmers move toward financial independence and reducing their reliance on middlemen.
According to the chief minister, easier access to credit and agricultural resources is improving productivity and creating new opportunities for rural communities. She emphasized that farmers should be able to benefit directly from their hard work without unnecessary financial barriers.
Officials also highlighted the repayment performance of farmers participating in the program. Out of 538,000 farmers required to repay loans worth Rs67 billion, nearly 86 percent of the recovery target has already been achieved.
The data shows that farmers have repaid approximately Rs57 billion through installments. Authorities described the repayment rate as encouraging and a sign of responsible participation in the scheme.
Maryam Nawaz praised farmers for meeting their repayment obligations on time. She said their commitment reflects a positive attitude toward progress and economic development in the agriculture sector.
Agriculture remains a key contributor to Punjab’s economy, and policymakers believe programs like the Kisan Card can help strengthen rural livelihoods. By providing easier access to financing and farm inputs, the initiative aims to support sustainable agricultural growth.
