The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a major energy project for the merged districts. The initiative is called the home solarization scheme. It aims to provide affordable and reliable electricity to thousands of households.
According to official documents, the scheme will benefit around 120,000 eligible families. These households will receive solar systems either free of cost or through easy monthly payments. The decision is part of the provinceโs plan to reduce energy shortages in remote areas.
Under the home solarization scheme, each selected household will get a two-kilowatt solar system. The package will include solar panels, an inverter, and other required accessories. Officials say the system is suitable for basic household electricity needs.
The estimated cost of one solar kit ranges from Rs255,000 to Rs300,000. The total cost of the project is around Rs13 billion. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will fully fund the project.
The scheme will be implemented in Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, and North and South Waziristan. These areas often face power shortages and limited grid access. Officials believe solar energy can provide a long-term solution.
The Bank of Khyber will manage the financial structure of the project. Two payment categories have been proposed. These include refundable and non-refundable options.
In the refundable category, beneficiaries will pay monthly installments. The payment plan includes 36 installments of about Rs8,300 each. In the non-refundable category, selected households will receive the system without any payment.
The government will decide which families qualify for each category. Selection will be based on official criteria to ensure fairness and transparency.
Vendors for the solar equipment will be chosen by the Bank of Khyber. Technical support will be provided by the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization. PEDO will ensure quality standards and proper installation.
Officials say the home solarization scheme will help improve living standards. It will also reduce dependence on expensive fuels and unreliable power sources. The project reflects the governmentโs focus on renewable energy and regional development.
The scheme is expected to start after final approvals and vendor selection. Authorities believe it will bring lasting benefits to underserved communities.
