KP Govt Launches 16 Agriculture Projects With Interest-Free Loans and Solar Tube Wells

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed 16 new agriculture development projects for the merged districts under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP). The plan focuses on modern farming, water management, climate resilience, and youth support.

Officials said the initiatives aim to improve productivity and strengthen rural livelihoods in the former tribal areas. A key feature of the plan is the introduction of Free Loans for agriculture graduates to encourage youth participation in farming.

The proposals were reviewed in a meeting on the Annual Development Programme for FY2026-27. The session was chaired by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Agriculture Mian Muhammad Umar Kakakhel. He emphasized modernization and farmer welfare as top priorities.

Under the proposed projects, the government will promote advanced farming techniques and modern agricultural machinery. Solar-powered tube wells and improved groundwater systems are also included in the development plan.

The scheme also focuses on biological pest control and improved seed production systems. Officials said Free Loans will help young farmers adopt modern technology without financial pressure.

Another major component includes expansion of olive cultivation and development of a tissue culture laboratory for Dhakki dates. Cold chain infrastructure feasibility studies are also planned to reduce post-harvest losses.

The government is also planning internship programs and scholarships in agricultural sciences. These steps, along with Free Loans, aim to build skilled human resources in the agriculture sector.

A Mountain Agricultural Research Centre is proposed in Lower Dir. The plan also includes better crop estimation systems and greenhouse gas monitoring from agricultural activities.

Large-scale climate protection measures are part of the proposal. These include 1,150 land stabilization structures to protect farmland from erosion and water damage.

The projects will also support women farmers and small agri-businesses. Honey production and high-value crop cultivation in areas like Tirah Valley are also being encouraged.

Officials said Free Loans will play a central role in empowering rural communities. The goal is to create sustainable income opportunities for young farmers and boost agricultural growth.
