Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have taken a major step to strengthen counterterrorism efforts by forming a new sniper squad. The specialized unit has been created to target terrorists operating in sensitive and high-risk areas across the province.
According to officials, the sniper squad has been trained to operate in difficult terrains, including mountainous regions where militant activity has recently increased. Equipped with advanced long-range rifles and modern gear, the team will assist police and security forces in operations against armed groups.
The decision comes in response to the recent surge in militant attacks, particularly in the southern and tribal districts of KP. Police sources said that the sniper squad will play a key role in precision targeting during intelligence-based operations, reducing the risk to security personnel and civilians.
Commanders confirmed that members of the new unit underwent specialized training focused on long-range marksmanship, surveillance, and coordinated assault tactics. The squad will work closely with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law enforcement units to ensure quick and effective responses to terrorist threats.
Officials emphasized that the initiative reflects KP Policeβs growing operational capability and commitment to maintaining peace in the region. The sniper squad is expected to operate under strict supervision to ensure compliance with rules of engagement and avoid collateral damage.
Residents and local representatives have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the new squad will help restore confidence in areas affected by terrorism. Analysts also noted that the establishment of this sniper unit could deter future militant movements and strengthen Pakistanβs overall security framework.
