KP Government Raises Minimum Wage to Rs45,000 Per Month

KP Government Raises Minimum Wage to Rs45,000 Per Month

PESHAWAR โ€“ The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed an increase in the Minimum Wage for workers across the province under the Budget 2026-27.

The proposal was announced by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during his budget speech in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday. According to the budget plan, the monthly Minimum Wage would be raised from Rs40,000 to Rs45,000.

The proposed increase represents a rise of Rs5,000 per month. If approved, it could provide financial relief to thousands of low-income workers in the province.

Government officials said the move is aimed at helping workers manage rising living costs. Increasing household expenses have put pressure on many families, making wage adjustments an important issue.

The proposed Minimum Wage increase is expected to improve earnings for workers employed in various sectors. It is part of broader efforts to support lower-income groups and strengthen economic stability for working families.

Officials clarified that the proposal is separate from plans related to salaries and pensions of provincial government employees. The government has also announced measures regarding pay and pension increases, but those initiatives are being handled independently.

Before the new wage rate can take effect, it must receive approval from the KP Assembly. Lawmakers will review the proposal as part of the budget process before making a final decision.

If the assembly approves the measure, employers covered under labour laws will be required to implement the revised wage structure. The change would then become the new benchmark for minimum monthly earnings in the province.

Labour rights advocates have often called for wage adjustments to keep pace with inflation and the increasing cost of essential goods and services. Supporters of the proposal believe the increase could help workers better meet daily expenses.

The Budget 2026-27 includes several economic and social measures, with worker welfare being one of the key areas of focus. The government says the proposed wage increase reflects its commitment to supporting citizens facing financial challenges.

The final decision on the Minimum Wage proposal will be made after discussions and voting in the KP Assembly. Until then, the increase remains subject to legislative approval.
