Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has called for stronger monitoring of funds allocated to girls’ Education across the province.
Officials and stakeholders stressed the need for better tracking of spending. The aim is to improve girls’ access to quality learning opportunities.
The recommendations were discussed during a post-budget seminar focused on girls’ education. Participants also called for gender tagging in the 2026-27 education budget.
Gender tagging could help authorities identify how much funding directly supports girls. It could also improve transparency in the use of public funds.
Seminar Focuses on Girls’ Education Funding
The seminar was organised by the Provincial Oversight and Advisory Committee on Girls’ Education. The committee operates under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women.
Blue Veins and the Malala Fund supported the event.
Provincial assembly members and government officials attended the seminar. Representatives from the Education Department and civil society also participated.
Young girls working as education advocates were also part of the discussions.
KPCSW Chairperson Dr Sumera Shams said consultations were held before preparing the recommendations. Government officials, stakeholders and young girls were included in the process.
The recommendations aim to make the Education budget more gender-inclusive. They were submitted to the Education Department for consideration in the 2026-27 budget.
KP Education Budget Reaches Rs397 Billion
Officials also shared details about the province’s education spending.
Accounts Officer Pazeer Zada and Governance Advisor Muhammad Ijaz Khalil briefed participants about current allocations.
According to officials, the provincial education budget has increased by 10 percent from the previous year. It has now reached Rs397 billion.
Around Rs21 billion of the total amount has been allocated for development projects.
The figures highlight the significant resources being directed towards the sector. However, participants stressed the importance of monitoring how these funds benefit girls.
Global Virtual School Promotes Digital Learning
Deputy Secretary for Budget Naseem Khan also highlighted a new digital learning initiative.
The Education Department has launched a Global Virtual School to support AI-based digital learning.
The initiative aims to reduce geographical barriers faced by students. Digital learning could provide greater access to students living in remote areas.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly Secretary Syed Wiqar Shah also highlighted the wider benefits of investing in girls.
He said spending on girls’ Education could support broader social development across the province.
