Pakistani and other international students can apply for the KUT Special Scholarship Program 2027 in Japan. The programme offers fully funded support for a three-year doctoral degree in engineering.
The Kochi University of Technology (KUT) offers the programme through its Graduate School of Engineering. It is designed for talented students interested in advanced research.
The doctoral programme is conducted entirely in English. Students can join through April or October enrollment, depending on the available application round.
KUT Scholarship 2027 Financial Benefits
The Scholarship provides significant financial support to successful doctoral students. Selected candidates receive a full waiver of several university charges.
The ¥15,000 entrance examination fee is waived. The ¥300,000 enrollment fee is also fully covered.
Students also receive a full tuition waiver. The annual tuition fee is ¥535,800, which is covered for three years.
In addition, successful candidates receive ¥150,000 per month for three years. This provides ¥5.4 million in financial support during the programme.
Eligible international students living outside Japan may also receive a one-time ¥150,000 allowance. This payment supports travel and initial living costs in Japan.
KUT also offers Japanese-language classes and support for academic and daily life. Accommodation assistance may also be available, depending on availability.
Who Can Apply for the KUT Scholarship?
Applicants generally need a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification. Students expecting to complete their degree before enrollment may also qualify.
Candidates are normally required to be 35 years old or younger at enrollment. They must also demonstrate strong academic performance and research potential.
Applicants must meet the university’s English-language requirements.
The current guidelines list a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 72. Applicants also need at least 17 in the writing section.
For IELTS, candidates need an overall score of at least 5.5. A minimum writing score of 5.5 is also required.
However, exemptions from these requirements may apply in certain circumstances.
Supervisor Approval Is Required
Applicants must receive permission from a preferred KUT SSP supervisor before submitting their formal application.
Prospective students can contact up to two supervisors through the university’s pre-application process. However, only one supervisor can be selected for the final application.
KUT recommends starting the supervisor process at least eight weeks before the formal deadline.
KUT Scholarship 2027 Application Deadlines
The current schedule lists October 16, 2026, as an important application deadline.
This deadline applies to April 2027 enrollment and the first application round for October 2027 enrollment.
A second deadline for October 2027 enrollment is April 9, 2027.
Applications must reach the university before the relevant deadline. Interviews and specialised-subject examinations are generally conducted online.
Requirements to Complete the PhD
Selected students must remain enrolled for at least three years. They must complete the required coursework and examinations.
Candidates are also normally expected to produce at least one high-level peer-reviewed academic publication before their final defence.
For Pakistani students, the Scholarship provides an opportunity to pursue doctoral research in Japan with substantial financial assistance.
The programme combines tuition coverage, monthly financial support and relocation assistance. It also allows international students to complete their doctoral research in English.
