Rawalpindi’s famous Kutchery Chowk has officially been renamed “Marka-e-Haq Square” as authorities prepare for the formal inauguration of the major infrastructure project.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the newly completed project on Sunday during a special ceremony in Rawalpindi.
Authorities said extensive security arrangements were finalised ahead of the inauguration event. Rawalpindi Police deployed large numbers of personnel across the area to maintain law and order during the ceremony.
According to officials, the Elite Force, Special Branch, and district police have all been assigned duties around Kutchery Chowk and nearby routes. Police personnel were instructed to report to their assigned locations on time.
Security officials also directed officers not to carry mobile phones while on duty. Personnel were further instructed not to leave their deployment points until the completion of route arrangements and official movement.
Authorities emphasized strict discipline during the event. Officers were advised to remain alert and ensure proper uniform standards throughout the ceremony.
Police officials stated that foolproof security measures had been put in place to avoid any disruption during the inauguration of the renamed square.
The large-scale infrastructure project at Kutchery Chowk was reportedly completed at a cost exceeding Rs19 billion. Officials said the project was finished within six months.
The development includes two flyovers, three underpasses, and two steel bridges aimed at improving traffic movement in the city. Authorities believe the new road network will significantly reduce congestion in one of Rawalpindi’s busiest areas.
Residents have largely welcomed the completion of the project. Many citizens expressed hope that the upgraded infrastructure would help reduce travel time and improve daily commuting conditions.
The renaming of Kutchery Chowk to “Marka-e-Haq Square” has also sparked discussion on social media, where users shared mixed reactions regarding the symbolic significance of the new name.
Officials say the project is part of broader urban development efforts aimed at modernising traffic infrastructure in Rawalpindi and improving connectivity across major commercial routes.
The inauguration ceremony is expected to attract senior government officials, political representatives, and security authorities. Traffic plans and security protocols remain in effect around the area due to the high-profile nature of the event.
