LAHORE β The Muttahida Nanbai Association has announced a price hike of Rs5 for naan and khameeri roti in Lahore. The new price for both items has been set at Rs30, effective immediately.
According to the associationβs president, the decision was made after a significant increase in the cost of fine flour. The price of a fine flour sack has risen from Rs4,500 to Rs5,000, forcing tandoor owners to adjust the prices of naan and khameeri roti accordingly.
The association stated that the rising cost of raw materials has made it difficult for nanbais (bakers) to sell bread at the previous rates. βWe have been facing continuous increases in flour prices, which directly affect our business,β said the associationβs representative.
However, the group added that if their demands regarding flour pricing and support are accepted, the price of naan and khameeri roti could be reduced to Rs25.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has clarified that it has no involvement in the recent rise in flour sack prices. A provincial spokesperson stated that the government-approved price of plain roti remains unchanged at Rs14. The official emphasized that strict action would be taken against those violating the official price list for essential food items.
Citizens, on the other hand, have expressed concern over the continuous rise in food prices, saying that the increase in the price of naan and khameeri roti adds further pressure on already struggling household budgets.
