Shocking Incident on Lahore Metro Route as Bus Catches Fire

Metro bus caught fire in Lahore on Friday after its engine reportedly overheated during extreme weather conditions. The incident occurred near Kalma Chowk and caused concern among passengers and commuters in the area.

According to reports, the fire broke out in the engine compartment of the Metro bus while it was in operation. Thick smoke was seen rising from the vehicle, prompting immediate action from the bus management and staff.

Officials later stated that excessive heat in the engine was the primary reason behind the fire. Lahore has been experiencing high temperatures in recent days, which may have contributed to the incident.

The management responded quickly and managed to bring the fire under control through its own emergency measures. All passengers on board were safely evacuated before the situation worsened.

No casualties or injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed that every passenger was rescued safely and moved away from the affected vehicle as a precautionary measure.

The incident briefly created concern among travelers using the Metro service. However, officials said the quick response prevented a major accident and ensured passenger safety.

This is not the first such incident involving a bus service in Pakistan. Earlier in May 2026, a metro bus traveling from Islamabad to Rawalpindi also caught fire during its journey.

In that incident, passengers had to break windows to escape as thick smoke filled the vehicle. Witnesses reported that smoke could be seen from a considerable distance.

All passengers managed to leave the burning bus safely before emergency responders arrived. Rescue 1122 teams later reached the scene, but the vehicle had already suffered extensive damage.

The earlier fire also disrupted metro operations for several hours and caused inconvenience to commuters. Many passengers were forced to seek alternative transport arrangements.

Following the latest incident in Lahore, transport authorities are expected to review safety measures and vehicle maintenance procedures. Officials may also inspect engine systems and cooling mechanisms to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

Public transport services play an important role in the daily lives of thousands of commuters. Therefore, ensuring the safety and reliability of the Metro system remains a key priority for transport authorities.
