Punjab Government Makes Safety Wires Mandatory On Motorcycles During Basant

The Lahore district administration has finalized detailed plans to revive Basant celebrations, with a strong focus on public safety and strict enforcement of rules. Officials confirmed that Basant Standard Operating Procedures have been sent to the Home Department for approval.

According to sources, Basant events are proposed for February 6, 7, and 8. The celebrations may include both daytime and nighttime activities across designated areas of the city. Authorities said safety remains the top priority during the proposed festival.

To monitor compliance, drones will be used across Lahore. Private firms will also assist in surveillance operations. Assistant Commissioners, police officials, civil defense staff, and environmental officers will jointly enforce the approved SOPs.

Officials said special attention will be given to road safety and motorcycle safety during the celebrations. Past incidents linked to kite strings have caused serious injuries to riders. Authorities aim to prevent such risks through strict controls.

Sources revealed that the sale of kites and kite strings may begin from February 1. However, sellers must first complete registration after Home Department approval. A registration fee of Rs1,000 has been fixed for kite sellers.

Licenses for manufacturing and selling kites and strings will remain valid for one year. Before issuing any license, clearance from Assistant Commissioners and police authorities will be mandatory. Registration rules will apply across Lahore.

Officials clarified that flying โ€œGudda,โ€ or large kites, will remain banned. Kite flying and sales will only be allowed for three days. Any violation of the rules will lead to arrests and heavy fines.

Authorities warned that breaching SOPs could result in imprisonment of up to three years. Violators may also face fines of up to Rs2 million. These penalties aim to ensure discipline and safety.

The Deputy Commissioner Lahore said all departments are coordinating closely. Police and district administration teams are preparing enforcement strategies. He urged citizens to cooperate fully with officials.

Public awareness campaigns will also highlight motorcycle safety measures. Riders are expected to wear protective gear and avoid unsafe routes. Authorities stressed that protecting lives remains the main goal.

Officials added that responsible celebrations can help revive Basant traditions safely. They emphasized that strict monitoring and compliance are essential for public safety.

The administration reiterated that motorcycle safety and public protection will remain central throughout the event. Citizens were advised to report violations and follow official guidelines strictly.
