Lahore Police Bust Beggars’ Gang Using Traffic Signals For Illegal Income

Lahore police have arrested four members of a beggars’ gang involved in an unusual and organized scheme. The group was operating in the Township area of the city. They were reportedly manipulating traffic signals to create roadblocks.

The case came to light after a citizen recorded a video near Muhammad Ali Chowk. The video showed a young man switching off an electronic traffic signal. He was also seen holding flowers, which he allegedly used for selling at the intersection.

Once the signal was turned off, traffic flow stopped immediately. Long traffic jams formed at the location. This situation was reportedly used by the beggars’ gang to approach drivers and collect money.

Traffic Police DSP Fayyaz Bhatti confirmed the details of the operation. He stated that the group had been active at several busy intersections. According to him, each member had a specific role in the setup.

One suspect was responsible for controlling the traffic signal. Others approached motorists once congestion built up. This method helped the beggars’ gang increase their daily earnings through organized begging.

Police acted after reviewing the viral video. All four individuals were identified and arrested. Officials said the suspects have now been sent to jail after formal charges were filed.

Authorities also highlighted that begging in large cities like Lahore has become more structured. In some cases, the beggars’ gang system operates with coordination and assigned roles.

Officials explained that different groups control different areas. These groups are often managed by local coordinators. A portion of daily earnings is reportedly collected and shared within the network.

Police further noted that some groups use emotional tactics. These may include using women, elderly persons, or even disabled individuals. False stories are also sometimes used to gain sympathy from the public.

Reports suggest that the total daily income from begging networks in Lahore is very high. Estimates mentioned figures reaching millions of rupees each day.

The recent action against this beggars’ gang has raised concerns about organized begging networks. Authorities say monitoring will continue to prevent similar activities in the future.

Officials have urged citizens to report suspicious activities. They believe public awareness can help control such organized systems involving the beggars’ gang across the city.
