Lahore to Get Festive Makeover Ahead of Basant 2027 Celebrations

Preparations for Basant 2027 have started in Lahore ahead of the three-day festival scheduled for March.

Authorities are reviewing plans covering administration, public safety, cultural activities, and city beautification.

The goal is to make the festival safe while presenting Lahore as an attractive cultural and tourism destination.

PHA Reviews Basant 2027 Preparations

A planning meeting was held at the Parks and Horticulture Agency headquarters in Jilani Park.

PHA Managing Director Ahmed Usman Javed chaired the meeting to review preparations for the major event.

Officials discussed arrangements made during previous festivals. They also presented new strategies aimed at improving preparations for 2027.

One major focus will be the appearance of Lahore during the celebrations.

Authorities are considering dividing major roads into different categories for decoration and beautification. The roads would be decorated according to modern and international standards.

Special attention will also be given to cultural representation and creating a festive atmosphere across Lahore.

Basant 2027 Dates in Lahore

Lahore is scheduled to celebrate Basant for three days from March 12 to March 14, 2027. The traditional kite-flying festival returned to Lahore in 2026 after an 18-year hiatus.

Its return was accompanied by strict regulations designed to address public-safety concerns. Authorities are now planning ahead to ensure the 2027 celebrations remain properly regulated.

Ahmed Usman Javed said the event would highlight Punjab’s cultural identity.

Officials also want to present Punjab as a safe, peaceful, and attractive destination for visitors.

Kite Manufacturers to Require NOC

The Lahore administration has also announced a registration process for kite and kite-string manufacturers. Registration is scheduled to begin on September 5, 2026, through the Basant 2027 portal.

Manufacturers will need a No Objection Certificate before beginning production.

Authorities will also monitor manufacturing locations to ensure compliance with approved safety standards. Only permitted kite sizes will be allowed under the regulations.

Approved cotton string will also be required for kite-flying activities. Early registration is intended to provide manufacturers enough time to produce legal supplies.

It could also help authorities prevent supply shortages before the festival begins.

Strict Safety Rules Planned for Festival

Public safety will remain an important part of the preparations.

Rules will restrict overcrowding on rooftops during Basant celebrations. Unsafe activities near rooftop edges will also be prohibited.

Other activities that could place participants or the public at risk will face restrictions.

Event organisers and property owners may be held responsible for violations of safety requirements. The preparations indicate that authorities want Basant 2027 to go beyond traditional kite flying.

The government aims to develop the festival into a major cultural and tourism attraction for Lahore.

Beautification, cultural representation, regulation, and safety measures will therefore remain central to preparations ahead of March 2027.
