Lahore Changes Its Routine! New Market Timings Announced to Tackle Smog Crisis

The Lahore district administration has announced new market timings in response to increasing smog levels affecting the city’s air quality. The decision aims to reduce pollution and energy use while improving environmental conditions in the provincial capital.

According to the official notification, all markets in Lahore will now close by 10 pm. Restaurants and eateries must shut down by 11 pm. The administration stated that the revised market timings are part of broader efforts to control smog and ensure cleaner air for residents.

Assistant commissioners have been directed to strictly monitor compliance with the new schedule and submit daily reports. Authorities have also warned that strict action will be taken against any business found violating the order.

Officials emphasized that adherence to the revised market timings is mandatory for all traders, shop owners, and restaurant managers. The initiative is expected to help lower energy consumption and reduce vehicular emissions during late-night hours.

The move comes as Lahore continues to grapple with health and visibility challenges caused by dense smog. However, recent reports show slight improvement in air quality, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping to 155. This improvement has moved Lahore down to eighth place among the world’s most polluted cities.

Meanwhile, Karachi has now become the second most polluted city globally, with an AQI of 186, trailing behind Kolkata, which recorded an AQI of 250.

Experts believe that favorable weather conditions, including stronger winds and higher humidity, have contributed to Lahore’s temporary air quality improvement. The district administration hopes the new market timings will further aid in sustaining this positive trend and protecting public health.
