LAHORE β A tragic incident claimed the life of a Lahore youth after a stray kite string slit his throat while he was returning home from work on Tuesday night.
According to police, the 21-year-old victim, identified as Noman Yousuf, was riding his motorcycle through the Sodiwal area when a sharp kite string struck his neck, leaving him critically injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors could not save his life.
The Lahore youth worked as a medical representative at a pharmaceutical company and was the eldest of three siblings. He was also the familyβs sole breadwinner, making his sudden death even more devastating for his loved ones.
Family members and relatives of Noman were heartbroken and demanded strict action against those responsible for the ongoing kite-flying violations. They expressed anger over the lack of enforcement despite repeated government bans on kite flying in Lahore.
Authorities confirmed that kite flying continued in several areas of the city, including Mozang, Ichhra, Nawan Kot, Samanabad, Sodiwal, and along Ferozepur Road, on the night of the incident.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed strong outrage over the death of the Lahore youth and ordered an immediate crackdown on those violating the ban. She directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to submit a detailed report on the incident and ensure that similar tragedies do not occur again.
The Chief Minister also stressed that police negligence would not be tolerated and urged strict implementation of anti-kite flying laws across Lahore.
